How to add protein powder to breakfast without ruining the texture

A practical guide to smooth yoghurt, drinkable smoothies and overnight breakfasts, with a weighed serving and your own powder label.

Adding a scoop is easy. Getting the texture right takes a little more care. Protein powder absorbs liquid, and the scoop in your tub may weigh more or less than the one in a recipe. Our protein breakfast collection uses a weighed 30g portion so the ingredients and macro estimates stay clear.

Start with the flavour and the label

Vanilla or unflavoured whey works with banana, berries and mango. Chocolate can suit banana and peanut butter; it may overpower a mango breakfast. The recipes use dairy milk and Greek yoghurt, so changing the powder alone does not make them dairy-free.

Weigh 30g rather than assuming that one scoop equals 30g. Open the powder settings above any recipe and enter the serving weight, calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat from your pack. The calculator scales those label values to the recipe’s 30g portion.

Give the powder enough liquid

  • Smoothie: blend the milk, yoghurt and powder first, then add banana and oats. Our protein version uses 250ml milk instead of 200ml.
  • Yoghurt bowl: whisk the powder with 40ml milk to make a smooth paste, then fold it into the yoghurt. Add granola just before eating.
  • Overnight oats: whisk powder into the milk before adding oats. Our version adds 50ml milk so the mixture can thicken overnight.
  • Chia pudding: mix the milk, yoghurt and powder before the seeds. Stir again after ten minutes to break up clumps, then refrigerate overnight.
  • Toast: turn the powder into a peanut butter and yoghurt spread. Sprinkling dry powder over toast gives a much less pleasant finish.

Adjust to the powder you actually own

Different powders thicken differently. If the mixture is too thick, add water a tablespoon at a time. Water changes the texture without adding macros. Extra milk, fruit or nut butter changes the meal totals, so log those separately. The editable fields adjust the powder values; they do not recalculate every ingredient substitution.

Choose your first breakfast

Try the banana protein smoothie for a quick blend, berry protein oats for preparation the night before, or mango protein chia pudding for a spoonable breakfast.

Each STING version includes one sachet with 100mg caffeine. Choose a powder without added caffeine and include other caffeinated drinks in your total. These are adult recipes; follow the STING label.
